PvP is the most fun me and my fellowship have ever had in this game.  I'm in the top fellowship on my realm and it took a day or so but we found a strategy that works extremely well.  It's all about communication, trying things out, and yes having the right characters.  Every game like this has a PvP "meta" and you pretty much need to have the correct characters and group in order to really do well.  So no, PvP is not "balanced" in the sense that every character is viable but that is never the case in any game like this.

Also, this is the first game mode where you can't just throw money at it and rack up crazy amount of points, you have to win.  Losing is frustrating for sure but most real games are frustrating.  Man I sucked so bad when I started playing Smite on the XBox.  Nothing felt balanced, I would just get owned by everyone but I kept playing, getting better, started playing with people over voice chat and the game changed completely for me.  It's all about teamwork and cooperation if you want to win and have fun.

In any case, I would like to see the map a bit smaller so there isn't so much running around.  I would also like to see the buffs removed completely, especially the damage buff since it's just stupid for one person to grab it and annihilate the other team.

There is a smaller map made already, you might have seen it on screenshots in the Google Play store, but it was launched for an arena event and had some rather negative feedback which may be why they decided to use the old arena map that dates back to the very first Balrog event, that's my guess.

So... PVP has gone from beta to definite. It still sucks.

The PVP has divided the community into three camps.
    1) People who love the PVP
    2) People who hate the PVP
    3) Everyone else

That is mostly true. Even though I think that the second camp is far larger than the others combined.

But who am I to complain, huh? The game is great top to bottom. All is well.

PvP is easy and it's so easy to win. You just cheat. How do you cheat you ask? Well, I guess it's not cheating if you are just using the piece of crap balancing system that has been implemented. Step 1 - matchmaker selects a low level tank/melee 2k to 4k power. Fellowship provides 1 mid level Halas and 1 mid level support/caster/ranged 4k to 6k. Last spot add 1 high level Celebrimor or Saruman. The balancing system calculates total power and matches you up with a team of mid level champions that Celebrimor or Saruman 1 shot. Or just add 3 low level whatevers and 1 very high ranged. Rinse and repeat until maxed all 4k low level characters.

Let's just say I tried the above 5 times and got the orc dung end of the stick 4 times. Seems to work, highly recommended.

This PvP system is wretched, and I can't believe anyone would try and defend it, let alone start saying things about people raising legitimate concerns that I have constantly heard from EVERYONE who has tried to play it as intended and not manipulate matches. No time has been spent to tune it, and their own AMA answers show a lack of how to do it correctly. I guess some people will swear by something they like blindly, no matter what. It doesn't make you less of a fan if you want something to be the best version of it as possible and admit it isn't there yet.
